Job Description

Established in 1996, NOVA was originally founded to provide Environmental Consulting, Geotechnical Engineering, and Construction Materials Testing and Inspection services to the design and construction community, largely in the southeastern United States. NOVA Engineering is seeking a Senior Engineering Technician (Special Inspector) in Charleston, SC . We are looking for a self-motivated individual with a positive attitude and a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing field materials testing of soil, concrete, and asphalt
  • Structural inspections for rebar, masonry, post-tensioning, and foundations
  • Preparing detailed and complete field reports with all relevant test results and inspections/observations provided
  • Performing laboratory tests on soil and concrete and preparing reports of results
  • Evaluating site and subgrade conditions on construction projects and providing recommendations
  • Communicating with clients, contractors, and engineering and technician staff regarding construction issues

Qualifications:

  • ACI Level I Concrete Field Testing certification is required
  • ICC Reinforced Concrete and/or Structural Masonry is required (at least one, but both are preferred)
  • Post-Tensioning Level I certification is highly preferred
  • Ability to learn to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, make recommendations in the field and to perform calculations for field and laboratory tests and equipment.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull up to 70 pounds on a regular basis
  • Requires a valid, clean driver’s license, as travel to job sites is required
