Hydraulic Counter Specialist

Location: Murfreesboro, TN

Position Summary:

The Hydraulic Counter Specialist plays a vital role in providing top-tier customer service and technical support to customers seeking hydraulic and industrial solutions. This position demands both deep technical expertise in hydraulic systems and strong communication skills, as the specialist will guide customers in diagnosing needs and identifying appropriate solutions. Success in this role requires patience, an aptitude for problem-solving, and the ability to interpret customer descriptions of components. The specialist also supports inventory management, order processing, and the maintenance of high standards for customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities:

• Customer Service: Engage with in-person and phone-in customers to diagnose needs, troubleshoot issues, and provide product recommendations, interpreting customer descriptions when needed.

• Product Knowledge: Maintain a thorough understanding of hydraulic and industrial hose applications, along with knowledge of specific components such as adapters, quick disconnects, and valves, to assist customers accurately.

• Sales Support: Process customer orders, provide quotes, check product availability, and ensure timely order fulfillment.

• Technical Assistance: Guide customers on the selection, operation, and maintenance of hydraulic systems and products, including detailed understanding of various threads, connection ends, and adapters.

• Inventory Management: Oversee inventory levels, manage stock for hydraulic products, and coordinate with purchasing to ensure adequate supply, addressing discrepancies proactively.

• Measurement Proficiency: Utilize tools such as tape measures and calipers to confirm product specifications and ensure precise recommendations.

• Team Collaboration: Work closely with team members across departments, ensuring smooth operations, coordinated service, and optimal inventory availability even under pressure.

• Documentation: Maintain records of transactions, customer inquiries, and inventory updates to support efficient follow-up and stock tracking.

Additional Product and Technical Familiarity:

Knowledge of components and systems such as brass and hydraulic adapters, air brake accessories, quick disconnects, conveyor belts, motors, bearings, sprockets, O-rings, seals, gaskets, and pneumatic and hydraulic valves. Basic understanding of general chemicals, with the ability to recommend durable products suited for specific chemical exposures. Experience with lubrication pumps, abrasive products, and an understanding of chain and conveyor systems.

Qualifications:

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in hydraulic products, industrial sales, or a related technical customer service role.

• Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with hydraulic systems, hose and adapter applications, including knowledge of various threads and connection ends.

• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to work with a diverse customer base, interpret non-technical customer descriptions, and provide solution-based guidance with patience and professionalism.

• Organizational Skills: Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and ensure timely completion of customer requests and orders.

• Computer Skills: Proficient in inventory and order processing software; knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

• Problem-Solving: Demonstrated troubleshooting skills with the ability to recommend effective solutions under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications:

Education: Vocational training or certification in hydraulics, mechanical engineering, or a related technical field. Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with hydraulic and industrial products and a willingness to stay updated on trends and new technologies.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to stand for extended periods.

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced retail environment.
