Job Description:

Through the Entrepreneur in Residence (EiR) program, Trinity's Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship partners with experienced entrepreneurs who desire to lend their expertise and wisdom to the next generation of founders.

Helps the Center plan and deliver the rich experiential-based educational model, which includes activities, leading workshops to serve students across their entrepreneurial journey, offering critical guidance and coaching throughout the year to students and alumni teams of all stages and industries to minimize start-up obstacles, recruitment, speaking engagements, meeting with the Stumberg teams, and more. Connects students to their professional and alumni network, advising entrepreneurs on team development, prototyping, product development, and refining business models and strategies.

Available for in-person activity on campus a minimum of seven hours a day, four days a week. This critical role represents what entrepreneurial education needs to look like: a mix of experiential learning and course-based learning in the fall, spring, and summer.

JOB DUTY - 80% time

  • Leads strategic development and growth initiatives for the Venture Mentoring Service and Trinity Accelerator in collaboration with the Director and Center Team, driving innovation to enhance the impact of both programs for student and alumni entrepreneurs. Provides executive-level thought leadership and operational mentorship, ensuring programs align with Trinity University's long-term objectives and entrepreneurial ecosystem growth.

  • Manages a structured mentorship program , facilitating three strategic Mentor Community Meetings annually. Develops initiatives that foster an inclusive and dynamic volunteer environment. Ensures the program encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration, providing mentors with tools to effectively contribute to the growth of Trinity University's entrepreneurial community and its stakeholders.

  • Acts as the lead mentor and key strategic advisor for Trinity Student Entrepreneurs across various programs (e.g., Stumberg, Trinity Accelerator, and Trinity Venture Mentoring Service). Guides students through high-level strategic planning and growth initiatives. Cultivates a robust network of resources and contacts, connecting students with industry leaders and investment opportunities.

  • Guides students in creating and executing comprehensive networking strategies , facilitating discussions and moderating forums that expand their entrepreneurial reach. Assists students in developing and executing a strategy to cultivate a network and fosters discussions. This may include moderating discussions, attending relevant events, and, on occasion, leading groups of students, workshops, or other activities, as a representative of Trinity Entrepreneurship. Examples of when these may occur include San Antonio Startup Week and other community entrepreneurship events as well as Center and University relevant events such as the Stumberg Venture Competition, Alumni Weekend, end-of-semester events, VMS and Innovation Workshops, and others.

  • Collaborates on initiatives that expand the Center's visibility and engagement with internal and external audiences in collaboration with Center Team aligning activities with Trinity University's mission. Assists Center leadership in the strategic development of new programs that meet the evolving needs of the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Identifies ways to re-engage "former" Entrepreneurs in Residence and active alumni with students.

  • Aids Center leadership in the development of strategic partnerships across campus to enhance entrepreneurship initiatives. Identifies synergies between the Center's mission and other university departments, fostering cross-collaboration and shared resources to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

  • Guides Center Ambassadors in the development and execution of a strategic recruitment plan for engaging student entrepreneurs in key initiatives during your term as EiR. Represents Trinity Entrepreneurship at high-profile recruitment events, speaking in classes, and advocating for the program's goals to potential candidates at university-wide events such as Tiger Friday and similar Saturday events.

  • Facilitates daily engagements with student entrepreneurs , identifying opportunities to align student initiatives with the Center's long-term goals. Facilitates cross-collaboration with industry leaders and academic departments to drive impactful entrepreneurial ventures. Collaborates with the Center's Program Team on the development and implementation of co-curricular events, activities, and workshops that foster a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among students.

Administrative Work - 20% time

  • Ensures strategic management of confidential materials related to Center initiatives and stakeholders. Exercises high-level discretion in handling sensitive information, contributing to the integrity and security of the Center's operations and long-term plans.

  • Participates as a key partner during Center Team Meetings and Program Team discussions. Provides insights and assistance to enhance the Center's impact and ensures alignment with broader institutional goals.

  • Engages in operational integration efforts , collaborating with the Center's leadership, university offices, professional organizations, and external vendors to streamline processes and enhance the Center's initiatives. Acts as a strategic liaison to align the Center's activities with institutional objectives, leveraging external partnerships for maximum impact. Assists in maintenance of Center process maps for initiatives under the position's purview. Ensures process maps are strategically aligned with long-term goals, promoting operational efficiency and ensuring scalability of entrepreneurial programs.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES

  • Cooperates and collaborates with other employees in the spirit of teamwork and collegiality and interacts with confidence, patience and integrity to provide professional leadership during emergencies.

  • If interested, the EiR with a master's degree may be invited to teach up to 3 courses a year in the entrepreneurship curriculum - an engagement that would be in addition to and separate from this position's pay and time commitment - as approved by the Director.

  • Complies with all Trinity University policies and guidelines.

  • Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.

EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Five years of experience as a startup founder and CEO.

  • Demonstrated collegiality, respect, patience and empathy for diverse stakeholders.

  • Experience mentoring/coaching entrepreneurs.

  • Evidence of a commitment to Inclusive Excellence.

Preferred:

  • Ten years of experience as a startup founder and CEO.

  • Experience in a university setting.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Required:

  • Startups and Entrepreneurial Development: In-depth knowledge of the startup ecosystem, entrepreneurial growth, and development models.

  • Design Thinking and Lean Launch Methodology: Strong understanding of innovation processes and methodologies in entrepreneurial contexts.

  • Technology Tools: Knowledge of project management methodologies and tools;

  • Familiarity with Canvas (or willingness to learn independently how to use Canvas)

  • Google Suite: Sheets, Slides, Drive, Calendar, Gmail, etc.

  • Interpersonal Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across diverse professional and academic levels, including young people and early-stage startup founders.
