Corporate Counsel – Major Sports League

Location : New York, New York

Job Type : Full-Time, Hybrid (2 days can be remote)

Salary : $210,000-$275,000

A leading global sports organization, is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Corporate Counsel to join their legal team and contribute to their continued growth and success

Position Overview:

The Corporate Counsel will be a key member of the legal team, supporting a wide range of legal matters related to the operations of a major sports league. This position requires a dynamic, strategic thinker with a deep understanding of; corporate governance, joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions, and various contract negotiations. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver, adept at managing complex legal issues in a fast-paced, high-profile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide legal counsel and guidance on corporate governance, business development, and commercial matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to media rights, sponsorships, licensing, and commercial partnerships.
• Advise on potential joint ventures and their legal ramifications.
• Support the league’s operations, including compliance with league policies, regulations, and governing bodies.
• Assist with the management of litigation and dispute resolution, collaborating with outside counsel as needed.
• Advise on antitrust and regulatory matters related to league operations, teams, and players.
• Work closely with senior leadership, team executives, and external stakeholders on strategic initiatives.
• Provide day-to-day legal support to business units, including marketing, media, and sponsorship teams.

Qualifications:

• JD degree from an accredited law school.
• Active bar membership New York, California, Texas, or D.C.
• 2-8 years of experience in corporate law, with a focus on sports, entertainment, media, or commercial law.
• Experience working in Big Law or for a large company
• Strong understanding of the sports industry and familiarity with the unique legal issues in professional sports.
• Proven ability to handle complex contracts and negotiations with a high level of attention to detail.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with executives, team leadership, and external partners.
• A passion for sports and a deep understanding of the league's mission and values.
