Akkodis is seeking an Automotive Fixture Design Engineer for a six plus month contract job with a client in Raymond, OH. You will be working in CATIA V5/V6 to design and model fixturing used for holding vehicle parts during processes such as weld, paint, assembly, and test. Understanding body part construction, datums, and weld information to incorporate into fixture design. This position designs quick, cheap, and fast tooling to build prototype cars. It involves mostly computer-based design work, with some time for collaboration with the production team. Tasks include basic fixture design work, and design of quick, cheap, and fast tooling to create the prototypes for testing purposes. You will use water jet machines and rapid prototyping parts to build the necessary fixtures and jigs. In addition to the prototype work, the team also supports the full-scale halo tunnel.

Rate Range: $29.00/hour to $39.00/hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.

Automotive Fixture Design Engineer job responsibilities include:

• Utilize CATIA V5/V6 to design and model fixtures for vehicle parts, ensuring they meet all specifications for processes like welding, painting, and assembly.
• Analyze body part construction, datums, and weld information to incorporate relevant data into fixture designs.
• Conduct layout checks with stakeholders to confirm fixture designs align with production requirements.
• Export 3D/2D data for supplier quotes and ordering, ensuring smooth handoffs for external manufacturing.
• Research and implement improvements to fixturing and related processes to optimize efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
• Support requests for fixturing, test equipment, and prototyping across departments.
• Collaborate with Interior Design and Aerodynamics teams, creating data for evaluation models and wind tunnel test models as needed.

Desired Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering preferred, or equivalent experience.

• Minimum three years in related design work, ideally within automotive body construction or welding, or manufacturing settings
• Proficiency in CATIA V5/V6 for design and modeling.
• Strong knowledge of vehicle construction/assembly, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
• Basic electrical and mechanical skills relevant to fixture design and testing. Experience in machining, and understanding the capabilities of equipment like water jets and CNC machines.
• High attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office tools (Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, Word).
